Hadhramawt Nabi Hud1
…a quick click from the car window as we approach the valley of Nabi Hud…the first glimpse of the tomb and the long Qabr stretching up into the rugged mountain sent shivers down the spine…and still does as I look at this hazy image…the heart that trembles being so close to one of our previous Prophets…one that dates back so long ago…and whose mission then, was exactly as is the concern and the heartache of all whose love for the Deen spend time and effort in calling people to the purity of Islam…or reminding the Ummah of RasuluLlahu SallAllahu alaihi wasallam to be more in love with him and his Sunnah…has mankind not changed in all these thousands of years…needing the same message…the same warnings…the same encouragement and the same convincing?…Ya Rabb Ya Rabb Ya Rabb…guide and save us all from a tormenting punishment like You sent Nabi Hud’s people of ‘Ad, Ameen…

“The Festival of Nabi Hud is a striking illustration of the all-embracing universality and acceptance embedded in traditional Islam,” said Peter Sanders. “For many centuries Muslims have gathered to honour an ancient Semitic Prophet who pre-dates the advent of Islam by about three thousand years without a shadow of doubt or controversy. In the troubled and turbulent times we live in, the deep, serene spirituality of the pilgrims to Nabi Hud reflects a profound inner sanity and a moving and salutary alternative to the materialism and neurosis of the modern world.”

zanbal Tarim Hadhramawt1
…the first Ziyarah to Zanbal, the graveyard of the Sayyids and Awliya, was on a night lit by a full moon…emotions are aroused long before one enters…the sacredness reaching far beyond the high walls enclosing it…
zanbal Tarim Hadhramawt2
…behind the fence to the right is the graveyard of our Noble Sahabah RadhiAllahu anhum who had the honour of fighting at Badr, SubhanAllah…and the tomb is the grave of Sayyid Abi Bakr Bishamila RahmatuLlah alaihi…
…Abu-Bakr As-Siddiq RadhiAllahu anhu during his Caliphate prayed for Tarim; for Allah Ta’ala to increase its scholars and water, as its citizens supported his call to fight the apostates during the Ridda’ Wars…where a battle took place in Al-Nujir fortress in which many of the Sahabah RadhiAllahu anhum were injured and taken to Tarim for treatment. Some of them were martyred and buried in Zanbal…and thus where they are resting is confined…
zanbal Tarim Hadhramawt3
…this was the first visit to a graveyard for this humble speck…it being totally forbidden here in Madinatun Nabi…
…shoes are left by the gate…one walks barefoot across the thick carpet of sand…the silence is the first sign of its sanctity…an unearthly silence stuns the heart…a silence one could remain in until the last breath…the serenity was intoxicating to the soul…one unworthy soul meeting the thousands of noble Sayyid and Awliya souls…including al-Faqih Muqaddam Muhammad bin Ali Ba’alawi RahmatuLlah alaihi, the initiator of the Tariqah al-’Alawiyyah…all the eminent lineages trace back to our Beloved Rasul SallAllahu alaihi wasallam…SubhanAllah…the most gathered in the one place in the entire world…and this is what is truly felt…SubhanAllah!!!…
zanbal Tarim Hadhramawt4
…maps detailing the blessed tombs and graves of the main Sayyids are accessible from various bookshelves, along with various Awrads and Qasidas…
zanbal Tarim Hadhramawt5
…the second visit was after Asr…the monotone simplicity of the grave stones define the nature of graveyards throughout Hadhramawt…a deep earthy terracotta contrasted with whitewash, with names etched directly into the headstone…a simply beautiful repetitive pattern…
