…the car could barely negotiate the narrow twists and turns of the stone paved alley ways leading to the many of the local Maqams…SubhanAllah after swaying from one side to the other in the back of an old hot dusty rickety car…as they all were…a small open area appeared with Masjid Ba ‘Alawi on the left…Alhumdulillah for the driver we had as he knew how to access all the places we had listed for the mornings Ziyarahs…

“Thus it is known that the method of the Bani ‘Alawi Sadat is nothing but the Book and Sunnah. They have different degrees with Allah and He is Aware of what they do”.

…entering these old mud brick Maqams is like being encased in a cocoon…a sweet syrupy filled cocoon…a ‘no sound’ capsule where even ones foot steps seem to disappear as does the breath…melting with the thousands and thousands of Dhikr and Ibadah that has filled these sacred spaces…

…so many of the many Mihrabs seen were so small and narrow…this enhanced the feeling of being in a sacred cocoon…blocking the Dunya from entering the mind…heightening the focus on the One…SubhanAllah…
Hadhramawt Tarim Ba Alawi masjid14
…the story of these two fluted pillars was that they were built overnight when the people constructing the Masjid were unable to complete the foundations for this section…so left…but when they returned the next morning they found these joined pillars…fluted like this…Allahu ‘Alum as to how they became manifest…

…seeking and dispersing of religious knowledge oozed throughout the entire town…throbbing  like the regular beating of the heart…the focus and purpose of the young and the old…SubhanAllah!!! It is a major valley of Islamic learning where the Barakah fills the air more than the dust, as it is estimated to contain the highest concentration of Sayyids, descendents of our Beloved Nabi SallAllahu alaihi wasallam, both living and passed on, in the world…SubhanAllah!!

Muwasala is an online repository for the scholarly teachings of the blessed tradition of Hadhramawt. The word muwasala simultaneously means “connection” and “continuity.” These two words explain the underlying purpose of this website: to open the doors for seekers to benefit from one of the great scholarly traditions of the Ummah, firstly by establishing a connection to its teachings, and secondly by embarking upon a continual path of study.

Throughout the centuries, the school of Hadhramawt has had a great influence on the Ummah worldwide. It has taught millions of people how to truly emulate the Messenger of Allah SallAllahu alaihi wasallam and thereby tread the path of Islam, Iman, and Ihsan, which leads to the knowledge of Allah. It has also shown people how to rectify themselves and thereby rectify the Ummah.

Hadramawt Tarim7
Hadramawt Tarim8
In a hadith related in Bukhari and Muslim, the Prophet SallAllahu laihi wasallam pointed towards Yemen and said: “Faith is there.”
Also related in another hadith the Prophet SallAllahu laihi wasallam said: “Faith is Yemeni, and (Religious) Understanding is Yemeni and Wisdom is Yemeni.”
Sayyiduna Abu Bakr as-Siddique RadhiAllahu anhu made three duas for Tarim:  “Allah makes plentiful its water, and makes it prosperous/cultivated till the Day of Judgment, and may the pious people blossom in its lands as plants/harvesting blossom/grow from water”…

 …SubhanAllah…the wonder and awe of Allah Ta’ala’s grandeur that from the dry dusty climes of the deserts of the Hadhramawt such sweetness is ready for His slaves for the fast approaching Ramadhan…these were sublime…as are the rutana, fresh dates, here in Madinatun Nabi…may hearts and souls be preparing for purification and self transformation…for stamping on the nafs and heightening the realization of truth in our faith…
…Insha’Allah more from the Hadhramawti sojourn to follow…

…Hadramawt connections…

…sitting here with blessed visitors the conversation was constantly glittered with SubhanAllah superlatives…the heart and soul tugging strings that were  anchoring us to how we were perceiving what was around us…however allowing these strings to be released one is able to descend beyond the real and to be free to be transported back in time…imagine…even  a thousand years before our Beloved Rasul SallAllahu alaihi wasallam a letter being stored in the area approximately corresponding to the right edge of this photo…the place marking where the house of Abu Ayyub Ansari RadhiAllahu anhu’s house was…imagine even then, of some one realizing the sacredness of the Mubarak dust of this Enlightened City (link to a moving five minute clip with Shaykh Ibrahim Osi-Efa…a MUST watch!)….imagine a love so intense for one who was a thousand years away from entering this world, and yet believing in him and seeking his intercession…read of the incredible story of a Yemeni King who sent a letter to our Prophet SallAllahu alaihi wasallam a thousand years before his birth, seeking his intercession! And Allah the Almighty knows best of the authenticity of this account…
They took the soil of Medina and smelled it…they wished to live in Medina and stated that if they were fortunate, one day they would meet the Prophet SallAllahu alaihi wasallam. But if they didn’t, the dust from the Holy Prophet SallAllahu alaihi wasallam’s sandals would land on their graves. This at least, they thought, would bring blessings and be their salvation.
~*~
…imagine hearing the Prophet SallAllahu alaihi wasallam saying: ‘I can smell the beauty of my friend from the land of Yemen’…and ‘I feel a sweet, peaceful breeze (naseem-e-rehmat) from Yemen’…while referring to the esteemed Owais al-Qarni who never sighted our Beloved Prophet SallAllahu alaihi wasallam, but whose love was so intense and would invoke Allah Ta’ala:
“O Allah, You created me when I was not worthy of mention;
And You provided for me when I had nothing;
And I wronged my soul and sinned, and I confess my guilt.
If You forgive me, that will in no way diminish Your sovereignty;
And if You punish me, that will in no way augment Your authority.
You can find others to punish besides me,
But I can find no one to forgive me but You.
Truly, You are the most merciful of those who show mercy.”

~*~
…imagine the immense blessings and honour that Allah the Most High has bestowed upon the lands of Yemen and giving it a unique status that no other place, besides the two sacred cities of Makkah and Madinah, enjoys…read about these from the serene and tranquil Tarim, where the family of our Beloved Prophet SallAllahu alaihi wasallam continue with teaching and living his  noble Sunnah… whose gems and treasures can be found in these pages: Habib ‘Umar, Habib Ali, Habib Kadhim al-Saqqaf…may Allah Ta’ala preserve and sanctify their secrets, Ameen…
…so vicariously sit right now…give freedom to the heart and soul to journey back in time and space and imbibe in Hadramawti love and belief…and then access the wealth of knowledge that continues to flow from this Mubarak land via the noble lineage of our Beloved Rasul SallAllahu alaihi wasallam…and Insha’Allah make Du’a for them and for all students sacrificing for the Deen as they study there, Ameen…
