…the car could barely negotiate the narrow twists and turns of the stone paved alley ways leading to the many of the local Maqams…SubhanAllah after swaying from one side to the other in the back of an old hot dusty rickety car…as they all were…a small open area appeared with Masjid Ba ‘Alawi on the left…Alhumdulillah for the driver we had as he knew how to access all the places we had listed for the mornings Ziyarahs…

…entering these old mud brick Maqams is like being encased in a cocoon…a sweet syrupy filled cocoon…a ‘no sound’ capsule where even ones foot steps seem to disappear as does the breath…melting with the thousands and thousands of Dhikr and Ibadah that has filled these sacred spaces…
…little passage ways led through arches…in what seemed like endless little hidden chambers for Khulwa…
…handshaped pillars, arches and niches and low cavernous areas add to the spiritual feeling that pierced the heart with every feature…

…the story of these two fluted pillars was that they were built overnight when the people constructing the Masjid were unable to complete the foundations for this section…so left…but when they returned the next morning they found these joined pillars…fluted like this…Allahu ‘Alum as to how they became manifest…

Muwasala is an online repository for the scholarly teachings of the blessed tradition of Hadhramawt. The word muwasala simultaneously means “connection” and “continuity.” These two words explain the underlying purpose of this website: to open the doors for seekers to benefit from one of the great scholarly traditions of the Ummah, firstly by establishing a connection to its teachings, and secondly by embarking upon a continual path of study.Throughout the centuries, the school of Hadhramawt has had a great influence on the Ummah worldwide. It has taught millions of people how to truly emulate the Messenger of Allah SallAllahu alaihi wasallam and thereby tread the path of Islam, Iman, and Ihsan, which leads to the knowledge of Allah. It has also shown people how to rectify themselves and thereby rectify the Ummah.Muwasala is an online repository for the scholarly teachings of the blessed tradition of ?a?ramawt. …In a hadith related in Bukhari and Muslim, the Prophet SallAllahu laihi wasallam pointed towards Yemen and said: “Faith is there.”
Also related in another hadith the Prophet SallAllahu laihi wasallam said: “Faith is Yemeni, and (Religious) Understanding is Yemeni and Wisdom is Yemeni.”
Sayyiduna Abu Bakr as-Siddique RadhiAllahu anhu made three duas for Tarim: “Allah makes plentiful its water, and makes it prosperous/cultivated till the Day of Judgment, and may the pious people blossom in its lands as plants/harvesting blossom/grow from water”…

They took the soil of Medina and smelled it…they wished to live in Medina and stated that if they were fortunate, one day they would meet the Prophet SallAllahu alaihi wasallam. But if they didn’t, the dust from the Holy Prophet SallAllahu alaihi wasallam’s sandals would land on their graves. This at least, they thought, would bring blessings and be their salvation.

…imagine hearing the Prophet SallAllahu alaihi wasallam saying: ‘I can smell the beauty of my friend from the land of Yemen’…and ‘I feel a sweet, peaceful breeze (naseem-e-rehmat) from Yemen’…while referring to the esteemed Owais al-Qarni who never sighted our Beloved Prophet SallAllahu alaihi wasallam, but whose love was so intense and would invoke Allah Ta’ala:“O Allah, You created me when I was not worthy of mention;
And You provided for me when I had nothing;
And I wronged my soul and sinned, and I confess my guilt.
If You forgive me, that will in no way diminish Your sovereignty;
And if You punish me, that will in no way augment Your authority.
You can find others to punish besides me,
But I can find no one to forgive me but You.
Truly, You are the most merciful of those who show mercy.”
